Berkshires in the Fall!!!

For those of you who may not want to trek all the way to Alaska. Check out the Berkshires! We went there last weekend for a little getaway before class started. It is a very quaint New England area in Western Massachusetts, and gorgeous in the Fall!! We went to this great orchard called, Hilltop Orchards in Richmond, MA. There you can pick your own apples, go for a nice hike in the woods and even do some wine tasting. In the area is also Tanglewood, where the Boston Symphony Orchestra plays in the summer months. http://www.berkshires.com/, http://www.hilltoporchards.com/, http://www.bso.org/bso/index.jsp?id=bcat5240070

Glacier Bay Alaska

One of the coolest parts about taking a cruise ship up the Alaska coast are the stops along the way. We stopped at the cities of Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Whittier on our journey, as well as a day jaunt into Glacier Bay where only a certain alottment of ships are allowed a day. The reason for this is to keep the environment's integrity. Any major movements of the water affects the glaciers, which can sometimes move up to 17 inches a day. The wildest part is when you hear the thunderous sound of a glacier calving into the ocean. It is magnificent!

TIA...This is Alaska

After getting married this past July, we celebrated our honeymoon on a beautiful cruise amidst the breathtaking scenery of Alaska. Having always been a Caribbean junky, I was a bit skeptical about this trip at first. But, boy was I wrong! It was every bit as serene and beautiful as the pictures look and more!

Our trip started out of Vancouver, B.C. (beautiful city) and went all the way up to Whittier, Alaska, stopping in a number of different towns along the way. These stops in Alaska were my favorite part of the trip, as you're able to pick different land excursions based on your interests. We are pretty active and like the outdoors, so we did some kayaking and whale watching, as well as probably my favorite excursion...meeting the Iditarod dog sled teams. These dogs are amazing! They are so well behaved and friendly.

Once you are back on the ship, the "ahh" inspiring moments keep on coming! From almost anywhere on the ship you can look out at the most remarkable landscape of ocean and forest. Nature is at its peak, with bald eagles soaring above you and whales, otters and sea lions foraging for food right a next to the boat. It feels surreal.

The point is....if you haven't gone....Go!!!
